On 1 February 2009, Atel (Atel Holding Ltd) and EOS have merged under the umbrella of Alpiq Holding Ltd.

Alpiq operates in Switzerland and Europe in the fields of electricity generation, transmission, sales and trading as well as energy services. The company is active in 31 European countries and employs a workforce in excess of 10,000. In 2009 Alpiq posted turnover of close to CHF 15 billion and EBITDA of approximately CHF 1.5 billion. Alpiq is the leading provider of energy services in Switzerland, and responsible for around one third of Swiss electricity supplies.
