Bickigen-Flumenthal

220-/132-kV Bickigen-Flumenthal line
In 2006, Alpiq Grid Ltd. Gösgen installed a new 220-/132-kV power line between the substations in Bickigen (BE) and Wangen a. Aare (BE). The new line has increased the security of electricity supplies to the Solothurn region.
The new 220-/132-kV line largely followed the route of the existing 132-kV line owned by Industrielle Werke Basel (IWB). For more than 70 years this has linked the substation at Bickigen (community of Wynigen/ BE) with the Basel region. Now the line will be dismantled and replaced by a new 16 km line with 54 masts leading to the substation at Wangen an der Aare. Also to be built in 2007 is a new 220-/132-kV line with 5 masts linking the 1.5 stretch between the Wangen an der Aare and Flumenthal substations. The cost of both stretches is around CHF 22 million.
Alpiq Grid's Flumenthal substation supplies electricity to the entire Solothurn region. The new lines will also provide the Flumenthal substation with an additional feed from Bickigen, thus improving security of supply.
